Workshops

Cellist Stéphane Tétreault and harpist Valérie Milot propose two pedagogical and interactive activities using miniature harps in sufficient quantity for the entire class of students.

In the first activity, a participative story is set to music for students of preschool and elementary school (Cycles One and Two). Accompanied by an evolutive visual component, this story explores numerous themes (stress management, problem solving, learning empathic listening) with the aim of stimulating students’ open-mindedness and nourishing their taste for music and reading.

Also accompanied by the miniature harps, a second activity of appreciation and interpretation is presented to elementary students of Cycles Two and Three. The activity involves the selection of a piece by composer John Williams. Democratically chosen by the group in the days prior, an unreleased arrangement of the piece is played by the two artists for a group of students encouraged to remain interactive for the entire duration of the activity.

For each activity, a teacher’s guide – accompanied by teaching material – will be made available to the educator. Intended as an optional accompaniment for the education specialist, this guide may facilitate the integration of both activities, putting forth musical cooperation Ensuring that the students experience a sense of accomplishment is the ultimate goal of these activities, focussing on the cross-curricular competency of cooperation.
